Soroptimist International of Coronado Calls for Scholarship Applicants
Young women in Coronado, between the ages of 14 and 17, who volunteer in the community, are encouraged to apply for the Soroptimist International of Coronado Violet Richardson Award, which recognizes young women who make the community and the world a better place through their volunteer efforts.
Volunteer actions which benefit women or girls are especially valued, and past award winners have also been involved in health care missions, working to end discrimination and poverty, participating in environmental issues, or working on programs that combat drugs, crime, or violence.
Young women who believe in the power of volunteer action, and who see challenges instead of obstacles, hope instead of despair, are encouraged to apply to their local chapter of Soroptimist International for the $1,000 scholarship.
Soroptimist is an international organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. Almost 95,000 Soroptimists in nearly 120 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to communitybased and international projects that benefit women and girls.
Candidates for the Violet Richardson Award should contact Mary Ann Kelly at [email protected] or 619-884-5318 for an application. Applications are due by December 1, 2011 and the Violet Richardson Award winner will be honored at the club’s annual Legends Auction Luncheon on May 19, 2012.
