There are tons of upcoming events in Coronado this holiday season – here are some to keep in mind:
November 23, 2011 through New Year’s Day 2012:
“Skating by the Sea”
Daily at the Hotel del Coronado
Hotel del Coronado’s oceanfront Windsor Lawn will be transformed into an ice-skating rink once again this year, for a unique winter experience under the sun and by the sea. Three-hour skating sessions are $25.00 for adults and $20.00 for children ages 10 and under (skates are included in this price). Two-hour ‘matinee’ sessions are $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for children. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Make-a-Wish Foundation of San Diego.

Hotel del Coronado’s Holiday Festival
4:00pm – 7:00pm
At this family celebration, check out the various booths with holiday games and prizes, skate on the outdoor ice rink, and visit with Santa and his elves at “Santa’s Village”. Hot cocoa and other beverages will be served and the day will be topped off with a fireworks display.
Be sure to check out the lobby, where their annually changing ceiling-height Christmas tree will be on display. This year’s theme is “Silver Bells” and the Del says the resort will be outfitted with “shining bells, sparkling snow, and Victorian accents” – plus the 100,000 white lights that annually decorate the hotel’s exterior.

Lamb’s Players Theatre’s “Festival of Christmas”

Runtime: 110 minutes with 15-minute intermission
Join Lamb’s Players Theatre for their 34th annual “Festival of Christmas,” which they call “The Tradition that’s Different Every Year”. Kids and adults will enjoy holiday songs and stories that encompass the important themes of the holiday season. Cost is approx. $20.00-60.00 for adults and $10.00-30.00 for children aged 5-17 (price varies by day/section; senior and military discounts offered).

December 2, 2011:
Coronado Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Holiday Open House and Parade
Join the Chamber of Commerce in kicking off the holiday season with one of the most popular events of the year. Let your kids roam “Snow Mountain,” the Rec Center’s annual winter wonderland at the Ferry Landing, where machine-made snow provides a unique experience to Coronado’s warmer climate. At 3:20, keep an eye out for Santa’s arrival at the Ferry Landing. The day continues with the Orange Avenue Merchants Open House. At 6:00 the Christmas Parade will begin to make its way down Orange Avenue and will end at 7:00, where Santa will be dropped off at Rotary Park to light the Christmas Tree. Following the tree lighting, enjoy a live holiday music concert by the Coronado Community Band. Events are free to the public. Full schedule below:

Artisan’s Alley Craft Fair

Get your Christmas and holiday shopping done early this year at the Artisan’s Alley Craft Fair! Returning this year to the Village Elementary playground on 7th St and H Avenue, Artisan’s Alley will have over 180 booths with gifts, toys, art, clothing & jewelry, ceramics, holiday crafts, and many more unique items. There will also be several food and drink vendors, making it easy to spend the day here if you’d like! Entertainment will be provided by the Coronado High School and Coronado Middle School bands and choirs.
Admission is $2.00 and includes one raffle ticket.

Annual Holiday Concert and Movie event at Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI)
3:00pm in the Lowry Theater
Hosted by Naval Base Coronado, this holiday concert features the Navy Region Southwest Band and is followed by a holiday movie on the theater’s big screen. Bring the family to this FREE event and to visit with Santa, too! This event is open to all, but those without base access must RSVP and provide vehicle information by December 5.

St. Paul’s Methodist Church
You’re invited – the Chancel Choir of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Coronado will present “Tapestry of Light – A Celtic Christmas Celebration” with orchestra. Please come and enjoy this beautiful Christmas Cantata featuring traditional carols from the British Isles.
December 11 and December 18, 2011:
40th Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
5:30pm – 9:00pm
Grab a spot at the Ferry Landing or one of the “hidden parks” on First Street and check out this year’s Parade of Lights – a procession of decorated boats (often playing boat-horn versions of “Jingle Bells”) through the bay. The parade will be visible from most places on the Coronado shoreline. This year’s theme is “Back to the Future” and each day’s parade will begin with fireworks at 5:30.
December 11 through 24th, 2011:
“An American Christmas” – a 1911 Feast and Celebration
6:30pm daily in the Hotel del Coronado Ballroom
Don’t miss this annual dinner theatre production of “An American Christmas” performed by Lamb’s Players Theatre in the Hotel Del’s Ballroom. “The Marshall Family” will sing, dance, and entertain you in this interactive performance set in 1911, while you feast on a five-course meal (vegetarian available) prepared by the Del’s executive chef, John Shelton.
All-inclusive cost is $115-130.00 for adults and $75.00-90.00 for children (price varies by date).
