THE CHERRY BOWL OF LIFE
by Wally Mitchell
Life is like a bowl of cherries.
We can think of it as one,
Many cherries are the years,
The individual are the days.
We shall eat them all,
But some will be savored more than others
Each day, with rare exception,
Has some part that must be set aside and considered lost.
Perhaps some day, the cherry, like some fruit,
Will no longer have a stone.
But then how shall one perpetuate the cherry,
And discern the very meaningful from the ordinary?
So until another day,
Taste to the fullest, the good of the cherry.
Be not reluctant to cast aside the less valued part,
But reach for the next and the good it promises.
May we, together, develop sweeter fuller cherries,
With smaller pits,
As we dig into life’s Cherry Bowl.
