Are the Toes the Window to the Soul and Just What Does Cindy McCain Have to Do With It?

I have a little celebrity encounter to share with you.

Last Sunday, we went to breakfast with my in-laws at a little diner in town. My husband and I were waiting in line to speak with the hostess when he leaned over and whispered, “Look who’s standing in front of us.”

I looked. And, honestly, I didn’t know who he was talking about.

“That’s Cindy McCain” he told me. For a split second I still didn’t know who he was talking about. Then it came to me: Oh, John McCain’s wife. You know, the guy who ran for President against Barack Obama? The older guy who has the smokin’ hot younger babe? Oh, yeah.

I looked again. It was her all right.

So, I gave her a really good once over. Just so you know, I was wearing sunglasses so don’t go and think I was getting my creepy stalker stare on. I was very discrete.

The first thing I noticed was that she chopped all her hair off into a cute little pixie cut. I likey.

Next, she was dressed totally unassuming in a black hoodie and jeans.

Then I scanned down to her feet. And what did I see?

Flip flops- no big deal.

What else did I see?

Daytona Beach, florescent, day glow, hot pink toe nail polish. What?!?!?!

Let me just refresh your memory on what Cindy McCain looks like at public appearances:

Maybe it’s just me, but I was totally shocked by her choice of toenail polish. Where did that come from?

It got me thinking. Maybe there’s a side to Cindy that we don’t know about. I think Cindy’s got a little wild streak in her. That hot pink toenail polish was saying something like, “I may or may not have a tray of jello shots chilling in my fridge right now. Want to come over later and find out?”

Politics aside, I am not judging. In fact, I love that she has neon pink toenails. It thrills me. I love nothing more than a girl who looks all prim and proper on the outside, but is secretly a rebel on the inside.

So, then I started thinking some more. Is toenail polish more than just a color choice? Does it say something about your personality? Are the toes the window to the soul?

It’s possible.

I have worn the same light pink toenail polish for more than six years. If I’m feeling really wild, I paint them red. Woo hoo!

Here’s what I think my toes say about me:

I’m low maintenance. I hate change. I don’t like to commit to one look, therefore I choose the most neutral color possible. I don’t want anyone looking at me. I am Type A: I cannot stand even the slightest chip in my nail polish, which is why I pick one that does not show flaws. Finally, I have two little kids which makes it really hard to get to the nail salon, so I choose the color that really goes the distance.

I have to ask: What do you think your toes say about you?

Side note: For those of you who like details: Cindy had coffee with real sugar, eggs, and she ate all her carbs. Good girl!
