SANDAG releases its’ 2050 Plan (RTP) for San Diego. Is Coronado ready?

SANDAG has released it’s Regional Transportation Plan for 2050 and it is the first Metropolitan Planning Organization under new state legislation to require a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from cars and light trucks. Thank you and congratulations, Councilwoman Barbara Denny, for having the insight and forethought to lead Coronado down the “green” highway to the future instead of into a BIG HOLE IN THE GROUND. SANDAG is now advocating for carpools, vanpools and INCREASING TRANSIT SERVICE. Hmmm…that sounds like the arguments made AGAINST the Tunnel. Apparently, the “NO ON PROP H” arguments DIDN’T mislead the voters of Coronado. Ironically, Coronado is in yet another study that may REDUCE access to public transportation in Coronado and INCREASE use of private vehicles in our City. Eliminating bus stops and increasing parking spaces downtown will encourage use of private vehicles and is contrary to the future vision of SANDAG. Please go the SANDAG’s website to have updates emailed to you and to take the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TMGQQFZ .

“The Sustainable Communities Strategy (SCS) is a new element of the RTP, as required by SB 375, and will demonstrate how the development patterns and the transportation network, policies, and programs can work together to achieve the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets for cars and light trucks.”

“If you would like to get involved and receive updates about the RTP, SCS, andGHG target-setting, please e-mail [email protected].”
