To all those who have previously, and to those who still continue to defend this great Country’s interests around the world, we owe our honor and our gratitude for their service. And we especially owe our thoughts of remembrance for those who have paid the ultimate price. We will never forget your sacrifice. Just like those who protect us on foreign shores, we have many others who protect us daily here at home. Sadly, we in California recently lost four of our bravest. They will be laid to rest with full honors this Friday in Oakland, CA: ——————————————– FUNERAL SERVICES FOR FOUR OAKLAND PD OFFICERS DATE: Friday, March 27 TIME: 11:00 AM LOCATION: Oracle Arena, 700 Coliseum Way, Oakland, CA Services are open to the public. officers from outside agencies and attendees are asked to arrive early. Video cameras are not allowed inside the Oracle Arena. Arrangements are being made for a pool camera for a live feed to be shared by the media. There will be separate viewings of the officers on Thursday. These events will not be open to the public. ————————————————— Unfortunately, I will not be able to take the time off to pay my respects in person, but a few of Coronado’s finest will be heading up north to represent our fair City and the rest of her faithful public servants as they pay heartfelt tribute to our fallen brothers. We in public service never expect to give our lives in the performance of our duties, yet we all–as well as our spouses, children and families–know that we accept the burden of that possibility the moment we raise our right hand and swear the oath to uphold the Constitution and to serve and protect . . . . When these four fine men kissed their loved ones goodbye that fateful morning before simply “heading off to work” they didn’t expect NEVER to come home again. My heart is heavy . . . and I grieve especially for the families, friends and colleagues of these fine young officers cut down in the prime of life. The “collateral damage”, these “walking wounded”, both young and old, who are now left behind to mourn these fallen heroes and whose lives are now forever changed . . . haunt my dreams. Rest in Peace, my brothers. We will always remember your willing service and your selfless sacrifice.
