Art and Enrichment Classes at the Spreckels Center

The City of Coronado’s John D. Spreckels Center is offering a variety of Art and Enrichment Activities during September. To sign up or receive additional information, visit the John D. The Center is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon.

Awaken your inner artist by learning watercolor and acrylic mediums from the former art director of design at DC Comics, Ed Roeder. His 2-hour Watercolor Painting classes will teach you to use water as a medium and how to control paint. The classes will focus on form, light and shade, indication and rendering. Fridays, September 7-28, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. You can also take his 2-hour Acrylic Painting classes on Wednesdays, September 5-26, 2:30-4:30 p.m., which will focus on painting fundamentals, monochromatic and full-color schemes, how to hold the brush, and how to control paint. $80 for residents, $90 for nonresidents for Watercolor; $80 for residents, $90 for nonresidents for Acrylic. On Monday, September 17, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., learn to design and create a fresh seasonal floral piece with talented and award-winning Maribel Herrera. This class is a fun and interactive way to learn modern floral design techniques and trends while creating a seasonal floral display to take home. Materials and tools are provided. Classes are offered each month and continue to grow in popularity. $35 for residents, $45 for nonresidents. A $30 material fee is due to the instructor on the day of class.  Must register by September 14.
