FILM FORUM CORONADO: “The Magician”

Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6pm in the library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.
December 7: The Magician (1958, 102 min)
Ingmar Bergman has a few tricks up his sleeve with this lusty, darkly comic tale of chicanery that blends bawdy bedroom farce with a diabolically clever battle of wits between faith and reason. An itinerant mesmerist (Max von Sydow) has his magic confronted by a skeptical, rational medical adviser (Gunnar Bjornstrand). With Ingrid Thulin. Swedish with English subtitles.
