- Parking Meter Holidays: The City would like residents to enjoy the “Parking Meter Holiday” in all commercial zones from Monday, December 4, through Monday, December 25. The free parking is an annual gift from the City Council and provides visitors and residents with limited parking, up to two hours in most locations, to encourage local holiday shopping. Take care in reading the parking restrictions as time limits apply and will be enforced. The City’s new parking meters will be programmed to allow free parking but will indicate a violation when the time allocated for free parking has expired. The meters will not be covered this year. The solar panels on the meters need to be exposed.
- Second and Prospect Improvements: The City will soon make improvements to the pedestrian crosswalk at Second Street and Prospect Place. Pedestrian activated LED crosswalk lights will be installed by mid-December that will illuminate the crosswalk when pushed. The new lights will operate on batteries, which will be charged via solar panels. The light will be positioned on the north side of the street and illuminate to the south and away from the residential properties. The light will be capable of activation from either side of the street. The light should help make the crossing safer in the early morning commute hours.
- Cedar Replanting: Residents may have seen four new young trees along Orange Avenue. The City’s tree maintenance contractor recently replaced Deodar Cedar trees along Orange Avenue due to the removal of four trees in failing health. The new trees are locally raised cedars and should be better acclimated to Coronado’s mild climate. Some earlier replacement trees have died. The City discovered they were sourced from the colder northwest. One each of the new cedars was planted in the 100 and 400 and two in the 700 blocks of Orange. Trees are being planted in phases over several years to maintain age diversity in the City’s urban forest. Many trees in Coronado were planted at the same time and consequently are aging at the same time.
- Budget Snapshot FY 2017-18: The City has published its Budget Snapshot for Fiscal Year 2017-18. The Budget Snapshot is a quick look at this year’s financial plan. The tri-fold brochure can be picked up at City Hall or can be viewed online or by typinghttp://bit.ly/BudgetDocuments. The brochure contains charts and tables that show a summary of expenditures and revenues from all funds, including General, Golf, Recreation, Stormwater and Wastewater, and revenues by source and expenditures by function.
