Principal Marquand Leaving CMS for Position at Sweetwater Union High School District

marquandCoronado Middle School families received this email today from Principal Jay Marquand:

Dear CMS Families,

After 14 proud years of service to the staff and students of Coronado Middle School, it is with a heavy heart I announce that I will be leaving CMS for a new opportunity in the Sweetwater Union High School District.  I have accepted a district level position as the Director of Alternative Programs, and I’m looking forward to continuing my professional growth and support of students and educators.

While I am sad to leave the students, staff, parents and community of Coronado, I know that I will leave the district and the middle school with great pride for what has been accomplished.  Alternative learning has always been a strong passion of mine, and I am excited for this next chapter in my professional career.

I’m indebted to so many incredible friends and colleagues who have made my experience in Coronado a lifelong memory.  I will cherish those memories and reflect fondly upon them as I move forward in both my professional and personal life.

I’m very pleased that Superintendent Felix has named CMS Assistant Principal Karin Mellina as the interim principal until further notice.  Dr. Felix plans to consult with the CMS faculty and staff to determine their wishes. I would not have made this difficult decision if I did not feel CMS was in an incredible place to handle such a transition.  Karin is more than capable to lead our school, and I have full confidence in her and our staff’s ability to maintain the tremendous learning opportunities your children will continue to receive.

I deeply appreciate all of the support the parents and community have provided to our school during my tenure at CMS.  It truly has been a collaborative effort in order to deliver the best education possible to our number one mission, children!
