CORONADO Residents around North Island Naval Air Station in Coronado may hear increased noise from aircraft through the end of next week because of added drills involving a Texas-based Air Force Reserve unit. Ten F-16 jets from the 301st Fighter Wing at Fort Carswell Field, Texas, will be doing exercises from North Island through Sept. 26. They’re preparing for an upcoming deployment, the Navy said. The unit is commanded by Col. Richard W. Scobee, son of the late Lt. Col. Francis “Dick” Scobee, who was commanding the Space Shuttle Challenger when it blew up Jan. 28, 1986.
