Candidacy Announcement: Doug Metz Will Run for City Council in November General Election

Dear eCoronado.com Editor:

As Coronado’s school board president, I fostered a team approach to problem solving and public policy decisions. I believe that our city council can benefit from this closer style of teamwork to meet the fiscal, environmental and quality of life issues facing our community. Many of these issues result from actions taken in Sacramento, Washington, DC, and beyond.

Having served in Washington DC, Sacramento, and here in Coronado, I believe that I can help our city to meet and overcome these challenges. I see a need to develop a clearer understanding and broader consensus on our vision, our service priorities and direction as a community. Consequently, with the encouragement of many friends, including all my colleagues on the school board, I am excited and proud to announce my candidacy for the Coronado City Council in this fall’s November General Election.

I believe that the city can benefit from some practices instituted by our school board—starting with the council itself adopting clearly articulated goals. This approach can provide helpful focus and framework for policy decisions and resolution of competing priorities. Like each school site, each city department should have service objectives developed with citizen participation from the ground up. And to build and keep public trust, especially today, every public servant should strive to strengthen government accountability, transparency and communication.

I welcome your thoughts. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have suggestions, questions or comments.

Doug Metz
