NAVAL BASE CORONADO, Calif. — Special control measures have been activated on Naval Air Station North Island today due to an unattended item found near the Visitor Center at approximately 10:00 a.m. A perimeter has been set around the Visitor Center. Base traffic is being directed to Gates 2 and 5. Pedestrian traffic use carrier gate (Gate 2). Outbound traffic on McCain Blvd. has been secured until further notice. Emergency personnel are on scene.

UPDATE at 4pm PST:
NAVAL BASE CORONADO, Calif. — At approximately 10:00 a.m. today, special control measures were activated on Naval Air Station North Island due to unattended items. The items were identified as two unattended bags near the Visitor Center and were cleared by Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
The Naval Base Coronado Commanding Officer, Capt. Yancy Lindsey stated, “the situation has been resolved and the installation is resuming normal operations.”
There were no personnel injured or property damaged.
The incident is being investigated.
