Coronado Home Harvest Welcomes Spring with Fruit, Veggie, Flower Exchange and Container Gardening

Next Coronado Home Harvest Monthly Homegrown Fruit and Veggie Exchange March 19Everyone enjoyed Cooking From Your Garden Class at the February Coronado Home Harvest. There was food flying, lots of samples, and delicious ideas for thigns to cook from local ingredients. The cook was Wendy McGuire, owner of local food delivery business Ganosh Gourmet, and co-founder of CHH. We made “What’s in That Pico de Gallo?” from Coronadan Scott and Ann Goodfellow’s timeless cookbook “Make it Now, Bake it Later”,using avocados from Wendy’s tree. Wendy then demonstrated a Thoran, a south Indian stir fry with fresh coconut and curry leaves that you can make with almost any vegetable. Wendy handed out curry leaves from the plants in her garden. Then we finished with Crepes Suzette made with a beautiful sauce of fresh orange and lemon juice from our Coronado oranges and lemons.

Now it’s time to usher in Spring with our March Free Monthly Homegrown Fruit Vegetable and Flower Exchange. On March 19, bring a bag of the excess bounty from your garden, and exchange it for a bag of the best of Coronado’s gardens. If you don’t have a garden, pick for a partner. No garden or partner? Bring something homemade, just be sure to list ingredients if it is food. Meet in front of Winn Room of Coronado Public Library between 9am and 10 for drop off, and return at 11 for pick up and a talk on Container Gardening, featuring a panel led by Kenneth Sheppard. Kenneth designed a container that is used for gardens from rooftops in Coronado to the hard earth in Temecula. He will bring one to demonstrate and discuss.
