The Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF) 24th annual Connect-A-Thon (reinvented Telethon) is coming up on Thursday, March 15th at Coronado High School with a goal of raising $165,000 for our local public schools. With California public schools facing ongoing budget uncertainty and chaotic state funding, the support of local businesses is crucial to the financial success of this benefit event.
The great twist for this year’s event is that it will be the first time in the show’s history that it will be completely student produced. Not only will the talent be kid-centric, but the production will be as well. Under the direction of Amy Steward and Angie (Hall) Tieman, student teams from both the Coronado Middle School KCMS News Team and the Coronado High School Digital Media Program will be directing, taping and editing all pre-taped acts and ads. These same students will also be manning the cameras and calling the shots on the night of the show.
While the Connect-A-Thon will feature our talented students and teachers, it will also cast a spotlight on the contributions of local businesses who have donated their services, time, products and financial resources, collectively contributing over $30,000. “CSF is so fortunate to have twelve local businesses as partners for this year’s Connect-A-Thon. Without their generosity, we could not possibly continue to raise record-breaking funds year after year. They are truly community leaders and we hope that their commitment to our schools will inspire others to give,” commented CSF Board President Tom DeSanto.
Coronado public schools also benefit from partnerships within the local business community. Martial Arts America (MAA), a Corporate Lifetime Member of CSF, will again be acting as Producing Partner for the seventh year, contributing $35,000 to the schools. “Having three kids of my own go through Coronado schools, this is my way of saying thank you to all the teachers who touched the lives of my children over the years,” said Miko Peled, Martial Arts America. Returning CSF Connect-A-Thon Hour Partners are Willis Allen Real Estate, Hotel del Coronado, Mullins Orthodontics and the Nadolife group of restaurants including Village Pizzeria, Mootime Creamery, Lil Piggy’s BBQ and Leroy’s Kitchen and Lounge.
Additional business partners support the event and the schools at the Underwriting Partner level and include returning partners Chicago Title, Spiro’s Gyros, CMG Mortgage, Alexander’s Pizza, and Nicolls Design. This year, CSF is also pleased to announce the addition of two new partners – Clayton’s Coffee Shop and eCoronado. “eCoronado.com is pleased to be underwriting partner with the CSF Connect-A-Thon,” commented Steve Johnson, Publisher of eCoronado.com. “We consider the schools to be a ‘Crown Jewel’ of Coronado and it’s a wonderful opportunity to help CSF raise the necessary funds to ensure the quality of the education, programs and materials for every student. Our two children attend Village Elementary and they absolutely adore their school, teachers and the incredible programs. As a parent, it’s a joy to walk my kids to school each morning and know that they are getting the best education possible. CSF makes that happen for my kids and the future students of Coronado. ”
