“Either to Please or to Educate”–The Undiscovered Art Gallery’s Latest Art Show April 27th

The Undiscovered Gallery cordially invites you to the newest exhibition…

“Either to Please or to Educate”

I walked across an empty land/I knew the pathway like the back of my hand/I felt the earth beneath my feet/Sat by the river and it made me complete/Oh simple thing, where have you gone? The first few lines of the song “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane, describes a sensation and a common familiarity artists engulf. Artists have an unspoken connection, a shared language, culture, and responsibility that no matter how distinct their work may seem is a direct result of the jostling of artwork. Born with this intrinsic need to push against the grain, these individuals wake up each morning with the desire to create and awaken others to their reality.

In the 17th century in Paris, the sole form of exhibition relied on what was known as “salons”. To display their work, artists needed to be a member of the Academie and to submit work to a jury. Such was the structure of these exhibitions, that revolutionary and modern artists had no other outlet and were forced to seek alternative sites to exhibit. Salons’ grasp of the arts highlighted control, analysis, criticism, as well as protection of its cultural production. However, artists knock heads with these concepts and embrace their individuality and creative freedom.

In all the ways we our monitored, consciously and unconsciously, artists have developed an awareness of their voice and have chosen to share it with others. Horace said it best: “Either to please or to educateÂ…” That’s what these various artists in our upcoming show demonstrate. To each his own, each artist expresses his or her perception of Salon Art and break away from the image it publicized. The underlying theme of how art has developed throughout the past, present, and future, as well as different art movements, is also communicated.

Travel through time and space to witness the eccentric collection of art that the Undiscovered Gallery has brought together. The grand social occasion takes place Friday, April 27th, 2012, and invites you out on the patio to enjoy a musical performance by Thomas Graff, while you savor our refreshments and take pleasure in the featured artwork alike.
