Every year the City Council addresses hundreds of items that are necessary for a properly functioning city government. While the majority of these items are relatively minor and will not receive much attention, there are several projects scheduled for completion in 2014 that are significant to our city. The purpose of this letter is to give you a heads up for what to expect this year.
Projects scheduled for 2014 include the following:
- 10th and Orange – Everyone’s favorite traffic signal in Coronado will be changing. The Council approved the new traffic and pedestrian sequencing in 2013 and it is likely to be completed in May. Average wait times are expected to be reduced from two minutes to forty-five seconds. Special thanks to the Coronado Transportation Commission, the Coronado Traffic Committee, and city staff for working on this project.
- Pomona Roundabout- The final design of the roundabout has been approved by Council and final construction plans are proposed to be presented to the City Council, along with authorization to bid the project as soon as February. Construction could begin as soon as June.
- Coronado Cays Entrance – After much collaboration between multiple community groups, the City Council approved a conceptual design for improving the safety of the Cays entrance for cyclists and motorists. Construction plans should be finished in July and the actual construction completed in November.
