Fred Eckert was honored with Rotary’s distinguished citizenship award for a community member who exhibits “Service Above Self.” Fred’s volunteerism is spread throughout the community where he is noted for his kindness and helpfulness to others.
Fred is a volunteer and supporter of Coronado Schools Foundation and has been the Roving Reporter of the school telethon for many years. He serves on the Board of the Coronado Chamber of Commerce, and is the Emcee of the Coronado Christmas Parade. A supporter and “Partner in Health” with the Coronado Hospital Foundation, Fred is also a former board member of FOCUS, and a volunteer shopper for needy children.
Fred can often be seen as a Rotary volunteer with projects like “Flags on the Avenue” and “Rotarians at Work,” and he supports the Rotary Foundation and it’s mission to make the world a better, more educated, and more peaceful world.
The Bob Watson “Service Above Self” Award, named after Coronado Rotary Club’s Past President and Past District Governor, the late Bob Watson, is given to non-Rotarians for their “Service Above Self” commitment to the community.
