Unapproved, Freestanding Commercial Dockless Bikes in Coronado:  Despite not having permission to conduct business on public property in Coronado, a number of app-rented dockless bikes have appeared in the City.  City Hall has received numerous communications from residents regarding the bikes.  City staff is contacting the dockless bike companies, such as LimeBike and Ofo, to request that the bikes be removed from public rights-of-way.  The City will step-up enforcement if the bikes continue to appear on public property and are not claimed by their owners.

Public Restroom Closures:  On Tuesday, March 6, the City became aware of a broken waterline at the Spreckels Park Restroom.  The City and Cal-Am Water are working on a repair plan.  The restrooms can be used in the interim; however, when the repairs are conducted in the near future, the restrooms will be closed and portable restrooms/wash stations will be provided.  On Thursday, March 8, the Portable Restroom Trailer at South Beach went out of service and is in need of repair.  Portable restrooms/wash stations will be provided throughout the weekend, while the repairs are conducted.

Library Exhibit: The Library’s new exhibit Coronado Salutes Vietnam Veterans is on display. The exhibit ties in with Coronado’s participation in the Vietnam War Commemoration, and the newly proclaimed National Vietnam War Veterans’ Day on March 29. The exhibit has brought together artifacts from the Coronado Historical Association, MCRD’s Command Museum, the Naval Helicopter Association, the Flying Leatherneck Museum, and several individuals. Artifacts on display include uniforms, insignia patches and badges, Admiral Stockdale’s medals, P.O.W. bracelets, model planes, boats and soldiers, and other memorabilia. The exhibit will be on view through April.

Police Dispatch Center Upgrades:  All 9-1-1 calls in Coronado are routed through the City’s Police dispatch center, located in the department’s station on Orange Ave.  This is an area not often seen by the public, but is the center for emergency calls in Coronado.  The dispatcher workstations were old, worn, and outdated.  Recently, the workstations were replaced with new furniture and an additional, third dispatch station was added.  As technology has changed over the past 20 years, the workstations could not accommodate increased wiring and cabling, which resulted in wiring scattered throughout the room.  The new equipment addresses workplace safety and is a big employee morale boost for the dispatchers working in a high-stress job.
