Are you aware of the controversy over dogs on the grass in Centennial Park? According to the city manager, complaints from either the Landing or the Point have led to enforcing the seldom enforced code prohibiting dogs from being on the grass in all city parks.
Additional signs were placed in Centennial Park and at least one offender has been cited. Dog owners in both condo complexes and neighbors accustomed to walking their dogs in the park are outraged. Many of us have written to the mayor and city council to request an exception to the prohibition for Centennial Park especially since the condos’ homeowners’ fees pay for that park’s maintenance (even understanding that permits to build the two complexes depended on that maintenance agreement).
Linda Rahm of Parks and Rec suggested that leashed dogs might be permitted if the residents of the Landing and the Point favored such a change to the code. Toward that end the president of the board of the Landing has acquired a permit for a rally of dog owners at 6 p.m. Thursday October 2 in Centennial Park.
All neighborhood dog owners accustomed to enjoying their leashed dogs in Centennial Park should weigh in on this issue. Make your preferences known to the mayor and city council members. Fido will be forever grateful.
