Coronado Middle School Advanced Performing Arts Did it Again!

Coronado Middle School Advanced Performing Arts (APA) returned to Fullerton College to compete in the National Musical Theatre Competition this past weekend. Students competed in individual areas such as Set Design, Costume Design, Solo, and Duet categories. They also entered in two group categories: Ensemble- a very condensed excerpt from one musical; and Review- a medley of songs from at least three different shows written by the same composer.

In the past, CMS APA has brought home awards in individual and group events and this year was no different! This year, the students dominated the Technical Theatre categories by placing 4th, 3rd, and 2nd in Costume Design and 4th, 3rd, and 2nd in Set Design. They also placed 4th in Ensemble where they presented an excerpt of Annie. This year they focused on music from Rodgers and Hammerstein for their Review and ranked 4th in the nation.

The best part of the weekend was being in a community of students across the USA who share the same interests and passions in the arts. New friends were made and lessons from workshops were learned.

Next month, CMS APA will present the musical Annie on stage at the high school theatre March 7th @7pm and March 8th @ 2pm. This year, the CMS principals Dr. Jay Marquand and Karin Melina will be in the cast of Annie. Tickets are currently on sale in the CMS office.
