The Islanders Sports Foundation Winter sports begins soon. Sports offered include boys basketball, boys and girls soccer, softball, cheer, lawn bowling, boys and girls golf, coed yoga and finally strength and speed.
The Foundation administers sports for middle school age students in Coronado, students at Sacred Heart, Christ Church and home school children are all welcome.
Our program of sports offers a positive after school activity for any level of athlete. We offer the traditional high school sports, but also invite young athletes to try less competitive activities at lowest cost on the island.
We offer cheer this winter for the first time to introduce school pride at the middle school ages. We recruited a tremendous dance and cheer instructor, a former professional dancer and University of Miami cheerleader Ms. Joyce Winter. This is a great opportunity for young girls for training with a professional, expert choreographer.
We also offer coed yoga with Mary Farley to help balance out the athletic lives of local club athletes. Our lawn bowling class is wonderful for kids to engage with seniors at our lawn bowling center next door to the Coronado Public Library. Lawn bowling is a unifying activity the Foundation greatly supports to get our young and older generations out on the grass. Such a positive and fun experience for all ages.
We have a great local partner in Christopher Foote at Coronado Fitness Club, our host for our Strength and Speed classes for our middle school age boys.
CHS Head Basketball coach J D Laaperi directs our basketball program and coach Andrew Kriechbaumer heads up our soccer program. Finally our super softball coach is Brenda Smith. Over at Coronado Muni Golf CHS Head Golf coach along with local instructor Brian Smock lead our incredible golf program.
These coaches have extensive playing and coaching experience at top levels. The Foundation recruits and hires all its coaches to best serve Coronado Middle School students looking to try different sports, love playing for Coronado Village Middle School and improve under great coaching.
