Día de los Muertos Ofrenda Lecture

October 29 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT

Join us for an insightful lecture on the Día de los Muertos Ofrenda exhibit in the Children’s diorama. In this lecture by Patty Gonsenhein, the curator of the Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda exhibit at the Coronado Public Library (Sept. 1 through Nov. 17), attendees will learn about the cultural significance of these ofrendas and the iconic Catrinas featured in the exhibit, elegantly dressed skeletons symbolizing the celebration of life and death. This lecture will be bilingual.

The exhibit will be on display through mid-November.

An ofrenda (Spanish: “offering”) is the offering placed in a home altar during the annual and traditionally Mexican Día de los Muertos celebration. An ofrenda, which may be quite large and elaborate, is usually created by the family members of a person who has died and is intended to welcome the deceased to the altar setting.
