The Hotel del Coronado is now beginning the process of implementing the Master Plan vision, approved by the city and Coastal Commission about 10 years ago. This marks a major milestone for The Del as Blackstone ownership green lights an extensive investment to keep this iconic resort relevant for generations to come. This development will include new event space and 144 additional guestrooms on the south side of the resort, with underground parking. In conjunction with and leading up to the Master Plan, significant improvements will be made throughout the property, including a remodel of the California Cabana guestrooms and Vista Walk. The plan also includes many public benefits to the Coronado community:
- New grand main entry drive and signalized intersection at Avenida del Sol with pedestrian crosswalk to Glorietta Bay
- Street improvements along Avenida del Sol, with new landscaped sidewalks
- Orange Avenue street improvements including closing the existing median opening and re-landscaping medians from R.H. Dana Place to Pomona Avenue
- New landscaped sidewalks along Orange Avenue from Grande Hall to Avenida del Sol
- Connection of the existing Paseo beachfront walkway at the end of Avenida del Sol
- Renovations to the main entry of the Victorian building, including partial re-creation of the historic front porch
Below are some rendered visuals and specific information. These improvements will provide an enhanced experience for hotel guests, visitors, and the community, and will ensure that The Del will continue to be a source of delight for generations to come.
