CHS: Coronado senior excels in sports, classroom

Coronado High senior Mason Mills thrives in the spotlight but doesn’t crave the attention. Mills, who carries a 4.2 grade-point average, has delivered for the Islanders on the football field and the baseball diamond. “I’m just trying to do what I can with whatever gifts I’ve been given, to perform to my full potential,” Mills said. “I don’t want to waste anything.” Mills doesn’t mention the extra time he puts in outside practice or how coaches rave about his leadership as a quarterback and a shortstop. He will tell how his parents showed him hard work and discipline from a young age. How his grandfather instilled in him a sense of perseverance. How his older brother, Grant, is his best friend and how trying to emulate him while competing against older kids made Mason a better athlete.
