Ending a long deployment, the amphibious warships Peleliu, Pearl Harbor and Dubuque steamed into their homeport of San Diego early today, where the ready group was greeted by about 3,000 cheering people at the San Diego Naval Base south of the Coronado Bridge. The ships carried 1,707 sailors who had been on deployment in the western Pacific. A day earlier, the group offloaded about 2,200 Marines from Camp Pendleton’s 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
