Coronado is the designated finish line for this year’s Ragnar Race, and some fit and energetic locals will be running as part of a Coronado team.
Local residents Kurt Sauter and Team Captain Becky Green have joined the relay race with the “Nado Big Deal” team. Sauter is a father of two and is gearing up for the event. “There is a big party on Saturday at the finish line at Silver Strand State Beach,” he enthusiastically told us.
What is Ragnar you ask? It’s you and 11 of your running mates running 200 miles relay style. This means running throughout the day and night!
“Ragnar is the overnight running relay race that makes testing your limits a team sport. A team is made up of 6-12 individuals; each individual runs 3 legs. The legs of the race vary in difficulty and distance, from 3-8 miles, allowing elite and novice runners to run together. Over 2 days and 1 night, teams run across 200 miles of the country’s most scenic terrain. Pair that with crazy costumes, inside jokes, a great finish line party and unforgettable stories. Some call it a slumber party without sleep, pillows or deodorant. We call it Ragnar.”
The 200-mile running event will take place April 20th and 21st through Southern California. Runners take to the streets starting in Huntington Beach, and head south down the Pacific Coast past Anaheim, Carlsbad, Del Mar and La Jolla. Over 600 teams of 12 will be pounding the pavement for 24 hours until they reach the finish line in Coronado.
