Art Unveiling and Citizen Volunteer Recognition, July 11 – Community Invited

The City of Coronado invites the public to attend an unveiling of new public art and a dedication of two plaques recognizing the volunteerism of two Coronado citizens. The event will take place at the John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green, located at 1019 Seventh Street, on Tuesday, July 11, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Grand Room.

Tea Garden 1904

“Tea Garden – 1904” was inspired by the facility namesake John D. Spreckels who created and maintained authentic tea gardens in Coronado, as well as by the beautiful tree on the front lawn of the center. Coronado commissioned San Diego artist Bronle Crosby to create a quadriptych (four panels) for the Grand Room.  The original art, oil on canvas, is the newest addition to Coronado’s growing public art collection.

In addition, Coronado will recognize the unique contributions of citizens Francette Roeder and Bill Hiscock. A bench at the entrance of the facility will be dedicated to Roeder for her significant civic contribution, creative vision and enduring passion for the realization of the John D. Spreckels Center. Hiscock is receiving a plaque on the lawn bowling green for his eternal optimism and vision in the realization and success of the Spreckels Center Lawn Bowling Green. The event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP at 619.522.2633 or https://goo.gl/forms/3ZWr2iXZciRexH2J3.
