SAN DIEGO — A Superior Court judge who ordered the city of San Diego to follow environmental guidelines when issuing permits for fireworks shows and other events has stayed enforcement of her ruling until Aug. 31.The city sought the stay from Judge Linda Quinn at a hearing on Thursday.The May 27 ruling by Quinn came in a lawsuit filed by environmental attorney Marco Gonzalez against the city and organizers of the annual July 4 fireworks show at La Jolla Cove.
On Friday, Quinn placed a 90-day stay on the ruling, which would essentially allow scheduled fireworks shows to go on.
