I just left the Council Meeting and witnessed the official vote to shut down the Coronado Tunnel Commission (CTC) — my family and I would like to take this opportunity to express to all the Tunnel Commissioners our most sincere and fervent thanks for their time, thoughtfulness and energy that they have extended to their City. You were all appointed without any knowledge of what laid ahead of you; but you were all very eager to serve your City and you took the time to learn, seek facts, challenge and completely understand the task you were given. Ultimately, while forging ahead you were all enlightened and saw great opportunities for the City to address the most serious and growing problem we are facing. You finally attained a deeper understanding of the larger scheme of things from the Municipal, State, and Federal perspective and also the best interest of your City. You were not finished with your task but it was making a lot of sense, and worked ardently to share important information: with the City Council, the Mayor and the Citizens of Coronado. Alas, today it was sad to hear that possibly all the facts and information you have gathered to secure the options to address our serious traffic problems in the future seem to slip away before your very eyes. Well, my family and I understand the complicated situation, and we thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts.
It is now time to move forward and hope that Caltrans and the rest of those in legislature will understand what just happened in the City of Coronado. We truly do not want to be restricted to limited known options, without little hope for a true resolution; we really do need the resources that have been granted to us. And, we truly want to work towards solutions that will effectively and significantly impact our serious traffic issues today and the future. The Citizens of Coronado all care regardless of the sometimes difficult and controversial issues we face — we all want the same thing at the end: quality of life in a small town community. Thanks to all of the Coronado Tunnel Commissioners and to our City Council and Mayor! We value all of you tremendously!
