Join the Historical Association, the City of Coronado, and Coronado MainStreet Ltd. at our annual celebration of historic preservation in Coronado! This year’s Preservation Symposium will be held virtually on Thursday, May 12, 2022. CHA is honored to host the State of California’s Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), Julianne Polanco. The SHPO is responsible for the operation and management of the Office of Historic Preservation, as well as long-range preservation planning. The Governor appoints the SHPO, in consultation with the State Historical Resources Commission and the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation. Ms. Polcanco will introduce this year’s presenting speaker, Shannon Lauchner Pries, a Historian from the SHPO’s Local Government & Environmental Compliance Unit. Ms. Pries will share the State’s historic preservation initiatives, with a particular focus on historic districts. The event will also include a presentation from Tricia Olsen, City of Coronado Associate Planner, on the City’s Historic Preservation Program and how to designate a home as a historic resource.
