Fun for the Whole Family 

Coronado Playhouse and Hispanic Arts Theatre have joined forces to bring La Posada Magica: The Magical Journey for five performances from Friday, December 15th to Sunday 17th, at Coronado Playhouse. La Posada Magica was a holiday staple in Costa Mesa, California for 15 consecutive years. Hispanic Arts Theatre performed the production for San Diego audiences for three years and they are thrilled to present their production this Holiday Season at the community’s theatre, Coronado Playhouse.

Las Posadas is a novenario (nine days of religious observance) celebrated chiefly in Mexico and by Mexican-Americans in the United States, beginning on December 16th and ending on December 24th. It is a parade led by Mary and Joseph. La Posada Magica however, is a musical play that follows and borrows from this classic tradition and injects the story with more fun and wonderful music.

Performed in English with a Latin beat, this enchanting production is about a young girl who joins her neighborhood posada on Christmas Eve. Along the way, Gracie and her companions encounter a host of colorful characters, including chocolate-gobbling sisters, graveyard spooks and a heartthrob rock singer. Finally, this journey through her community commemorates Joseph and Mary’s search for lodging and becomes, for Gracie, a time of discovery, renewal and reunion.

The entire family can celebrate the Holidays together with La Posada Magica: A Magical Journey. There will also be piñata placed in the theatre lobby for extra entertainment during intermission.

About Coronado Playhouse

Coronado Playhouse is the oldest, longest-running community theatre in San Diego County. The intimate 100-seat, cabaret-style theatre, overlooks beautiful Glorietta Bay and is part of the beautiful Coronado Community Center.
