Coronado Playhouse concludes its 2017 Season with Fly By Night, opening Friday, November 10th and running until Sunday, December 10th, 2017 at Coronado Playhouse. With a non-traditional, charming and catchy score by Will Connolly and Michael Mitnick, this darkly comic rock-fable portrays a melancholy sandwich maker’s humdrum life and how it is intersected by two entrancing sisters, weaving into its overlapping love stories a resonating message about how the ‘invisible universe’ connects us all. A sweeping ode to young love set against the backdrop of the northeast blackout of 1965, Fly By Night is an original and enchanting tale about making your way and discovering hope in a world beset by darkness.
Nominated for four 2015 Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical and winner of the Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award, this production of Fly By Night marks its San Diego premiere. The original production played in Palo Alto, CA in 2011 and was remounted in New York in 2014 and was reviewed by The New York Times, who wrote: “The ways in which these people…intersect are meant to evoke a cosmic pattern, a sense of the invisible connective tissue that underlies the mundane…The score flirts with early rock ’n’ roll, as well as recurrent motifs that are guaranteed to take up longtime residence in your ear.”
