For the second year in a row, Coronado’s head golf pro, Brian Smock will be teeing it up in a Major Championship. Smock was one of 20 PGA club professionals to qualify for the 100th PGA Championship (August 9-12 at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, MO), and will once again compete alongside Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth and some of the greatest golfers in the world in a Major Championship.
Competing on tour each week is the primary job of professional golfers; however, Smock is a PGA Head Professional and his job responsibilities are vastly different than a PGA Tour player. His responsibilities consist of managing an entire facility, overseeing member programs and executing player development programs, among other professional duties. Unlike PGA Tour players, Smock must make the necessary arrangements to ensure his everyday responsibilities at the Coronado Golf Course are covered, so he can compete on the international stage at Bellerive.
A contingent of 20 PGA Professionals will play in the PGA Championship. Seven of the 20 PGA Club Professionals at Bellerive in August will be making their PGA Championship debuts, while six others return after playing in last year’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
