If you have ever experienced the love or loss of a child, be prepared for this movie to move you to tears. Based on a true story, Lion is an emotionally charged film that follows the life of a young boy, Saroo, who gets lost thousands of kilometers from home and, eventually, searches for his biological mum and brother.

As an eager five-year-old child living in India, Saroo travels to a neighboring city with his brother for work, but soon finds himself stuck on a decommissioned passenger train in the city of Calcutta. Unable to speak the native language and unsure of his mother’s and home-town’s name, Saroo must survive on the streets while he tries to find his way home. After authorities place Saroo in an orphanage, he gets adopted by a loving wealthy Australian family that lives in Tasmania.

Now, Saroo must face the reality of living two separate lives… one of poverty but happiness, and another of prosperity and unconditional love. Although Saroo’s adopted family treats him as one of their own, memories of his childhood begin to consume him, which ultimately push him to track down his family through the use of Google Earth.

“Wow. What a great movie. I don’t even know where to begin,” says moviegoer Kristen. “The movie was powerful and took me on an emotional rollercoaster.”

Cast to perfection, the film draws moviegoers in through authentic culture, a believable storyline, and relatability. From the ever-so-elegant Nicole Kidman to Dev Patel, who is most commonly recognized from his breakout Oscar winning performance in Slumdog Millionaire, all of the actors’ performances are heart-felt and flawless. Making his big screen debut, Sunny Pawar is bold, confident, and sincere in his portrayal of Saroo as a child.

Lion is nominated for 70 awards, including Academy Awards for Best Motion Picture of the Year, and Best Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role, Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture – Drama, and Best Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, and SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female and Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
