Blade, Canine Vice Mayor, Passes Away

Coronado Canine Vice Mayor Blade crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, August 27, 2015 with his mom Julie at his side. Blade would have been 13 years old in December.

Just a week after marching in the Coronado 4th of July Parade, Blade was diagnosed with leukemia. A month long treatment of oral chemotherapy drugs seemed to be successful. But then, two weeks before his death, Blade stopped eating and the new diagnosis was the lymphoma that took Blade’s life.

Blade was one of nine puppies – all with names that began with “B”. He and his siblings were living in the shelter where Julie and her son volunteered as dog walkers when they adopted him.

Upon moving to Coronado, Blade and Julie could be seen walking all about the village making friends everywhere. As a result of these friendships Julie decided to enter Blade in the PAWS of Coronado Canine Mayoral Race. She and Blade were fierce campaigners and Blade was elected Vice Mayor – a role he took seriously as he attended and participated in many community events including the 4th of July and Holiday Parades, the Flower Show and many Yappy Hours.

Blade was a noble and handsome boy with a loving and friendly personality. He charmed everyone he met with his easy going, down to earth manner. His loss has left a huge hole in Julie’s life, at PAWS and in the Coronado Community.

Blade was a special dog and we will all miss him very much.
