The Library’s Autumn Concert Series takes place on Fridays from September 6 to October 25. Each concert will begin at 1 p.m. in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. We close out this year’s series with Adrienne Nims, who will take us on a musical journey with lush harmonies, mystical melodies, and global rhythms.
Adrienne Nims’ passionate energy and dazzling musicianship are well acclaimed. As featured solo artist, or with her talented band, Spirit Wind, Adrienne creates an unforgettable and inspiring entertainment experience. Adrienne’s dynamic, sensual voice on the saxophones, flutes, and many more global indigenous instruments express not only a vast array of musical culture and style, but also the magic and mystery of Life!
Spirit Wind, Adrienne’s own band, feature Adrienne on soprano, alto, and tenor saxes, as well as many different flutes, including traditional western, Native American, Indian, African, and Asian flutes, performing contemporary jazz and global music throughout the United States and internationally. Mastery of so many different instruments and musical genres including rock, jazz, blues, classical, theater, Zen, Irish/folk, and more have allowed Adrienne to dazzle spellbound audiences while seamlessly moving from one instrument and one genre to another. Adrienne is a mainstay in the recording industry.
Adrienne Nims and Spirit Wind have enjoyed performing at such well known venues as the Getty Museum of Los Angeles, the California Center for the Arts, the San Diego Zoo, Quail Botanical Gardens, and at major jazz festivals. Having played with the Larry Mitchell Band, Lester Abrams, Native Vibe and the Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Adrienne hs opened for such greats as Spyro Gyra, Kirk Whalum, Joe Cocker, Al DiMeola, Fourplay, Steppenwolf, Najee, Boney James and Boz Scaggs, just to name a few! Adrienne has been called to perform for charity benefits and at major celebrity invitationals.
Her passion, versatility, and true love for the arts became self-evident in Adrienne’s involvement with such local delights as Lambs Player’s Theater, the Diversionary Theater, the La Jolla Stage, and the Lyceum Theatre. Adrienne’s wide range of classical accomplishments can be highlighted with several well-known classical concert series. Among them the acclaimed Gluck Chamber Concert series of California and New Work. “Adrienne is a musician of exceptional skill and quality.” Adrienne was personally invited to play for the Tony Gwynn Gala.
Adrienne’s vast performance experience and professional musicianship translate precisely into her work in the recording studio. An accomplished studio musician of nearly 25 years, Adrienne Nims is featured on over 50 CD’s, including her own releases: “Spirit Wind”(contemporary & Latin jazz); “Now and Zen” (a compilation of world flute music); and “Lady of the Loch” (traditional Irish/Celtic music), now available on CD.
