LUMO: New Jewelry Store Opens on Orange Ave

Lucia Mouet began designing jewelry in her early 20s when she noticed that it was difficult to find delicate, petite jewelry. She created her business, LUMO, to fill this gap in the jewelry industry. Mouet’s new Coronado store, and 15 different retailers nationally and internationally, feature the LUMO lines.

Mouet said the decision to open up a store in Coronado was a simple one. Coronado is her home, she loves riding her bike to work, and she loves the people. After Coronado, she favors San Francisco, in large part for its restaurants.

All of the pieces are hand made in Mouet’s studio, visible through the French doors at the back of the Coronado store. Mouet creates each piece from start to finish, and packages and ships online orders from the studio as well. Each piece is unique because of this. In addition to the March and September lines, she also creates special pieces for retailers and customers.

Of the pieces currently in store, Mouet has a few favorites.

The Augusta Ring

Petite Rings from the Augusta Collection

Mouet likes the Augusta Morganite Ring, but the Augusta rings come with six other main stones as well (lavender not pictured). They each feature a main baguette stone and a diamond on each side. Mouet said they are perfect rings for stacking, which matches with her propensity for layers.

Opals

Several Opal Necklaces from Lumo

Opal necklaces have a “mini galaxy” in each one of them, according to Mouet. The Grace Opal Necklace is a particular favorite, featuring a teardrop opal and three small diamonds at the teardrop’s tip. Mouet compared it to a pineapple.

Tear drop opal and three diamonds necklace

Mouet only uses Australian opals in all her pieces.

Alphabet Necklaces

Gold necklaces featuring small letters

Mouet said these tiny letter necklaces are one of her best sellers. The thin gold chain and small charm make these necklaces perfect for layering. They also add a personal touch to any ensemble.

Creation

“They [aspiring designers] should create whatever they feel like creating. It doesn’t matter if the pieces are different, because when I first started my line people were like, ‘Oh, they’re so dainty; maybe a lot of people wont be interested,’ but right now my brand is stocked worldwide and a lot of people really like it,” Mouet said, “So…it doesn’t matter what people tell you to do, just do it.”

LUMO is located at 940 Orange Ave and is currently the only place featuring this year’s September line. LUMO also has a website and is on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
