Jerry Adams, Ph. D.
Clinical Child Psychologist
Author: “Raising Happy & Disciplined Children”
October 9th from 5:45-7:15pm
All parents want to teach their children to behave responsibly and they want to do it in a loving and effective manner. However, many report mixed results from their efforts. Over several decades of teaching a class on discipline to parents, Jerry Adams developed and refined a comprehensive positive approach to parenting that is both acceptable to parents and provides them effective tools for discipline.
Through this presentation you (and all those who care for children) will learn how to guide your children to be more compliant, more responsible, more self-assured, and happier. Dr. Adams will highlight the similarities between children who strive to comply with parental expectations and other children who work just as hard to meet their needs through inappropriate and challenging misbehavior. He will discuss principles underlying behavior and what leads to changes in behavior, as well as strategies for applying those principles in the everyday lives of busy families.
Specifically by attending you will learn:
- How to recognize when your current discipline may actually be working against your own intentions, and how to reverse the process in order to meet your goals for your family;
- How to achieve truly effective discipline through mastering the power of positive reinforcement;
- How to develop and maintain a structured home program tailored to address your specific goals and concerns, including how to influence your children’s behavior even when you are not with them;
- How to eliminate inappropriate behavior in a way that does not undermine your other efforts; and
- How to assure the consistency and follow-through that is so essential to effective discipline.
