Just when we all thought the era of zombie movies was over, director Mark Forster presents the surprising World War Z, playing now at Village Theatre.
Set in current times, ex-UN employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is forced to return to the aid of the United States government in hopes of finding the source (and cure) behind a sudden epidemic of zombies.
Watching the trailer for WWZ, it appeared to me that it would be yet another cheesy sci-fi film, one more film to add to the surplus of supernatural movies of the past few years. However, watching the movie I found myself drawn in, constantly flinching and being fervently interested in the advancement of the story.
Forster is able to capture a very realistic tone in the film that leaves audiences with that strange, eerie feeling when stepping out of the theater. It is this sense of reality that makes the flick a great horror film.
In addition, the superb use of lens flares and movement by the director shows that the expensive budget was put to good use.
Anyone who is looking for a good thrill mixed in with a very handsome lead actor should check out World War Z, which will be playing at the Village Theatre through Tuesday.
