Big Hero 6 Produces Big Laughs and Warms Hearts, Now Playing at the Village Theatre

Big Hero 6, Disney’s latest animated superhero comedy, which takes place in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo, tells the story of 14 year old robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, a very young high school graduate who’d rather spend his time participating in back alley robot fights until his brother, Tadashi, introduces him to the robotics lab at the university he attends. Upon visiting the lab and meeting Tadashi’s friends, GoGo Tomogo, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred, along with Tadishi’s latest robotic creation Baymax, Hiro immediately changes course, instantly deciding that he must attend the school and further develop his own microbot project.

Tragedy strikes when a fire breaks out at the university and Tadashi, along with their beloved Professor Callaghan, are both killed. Hiro is devastated over the loss of his brother, and sinks into a depression, withdrawing himself from his friends and his Aunt Cass, with whom the brothers both lived above a bakery and coffee shop in San Fransokyo. One day, Hiro accidentally activates Baymax, the personal healthcare robot designed by his brother, Tadishi, and the two soon embark of a series of adventures leading to an unlikely friendship between the child prodigy and the surprisingly compassionate balloon-like bot.

The film is full of twists and turns, heroes and villains, comedy and heartwarming moments. Hiro, Baymax and the others uncover a revenge plot from an unlikely villain who seeks to destroy Hiro’s brilliant microbot project. Together, the group brings the villain to justice. All the while, Hiro continues to live with the heartbreak of losing his brother yet finds unanticipated comfort in Baymax, who in the end displays a powerful act of friendship. In the aftermath of losing his brother, Hiro learns that with a little bit of superhero power, the good guys always win.

Fans of Marvel Comics will recognize several of the movie characters, who were inspired by the comics superhero team of the same name. However for those unfamiliar with Marvel Comics story, Big Hero 6 doesn’t disappoint. Belly laughs ensued from one 6 year old movie goer Ryan, who said “This movie is so hilarious!” Even the parents will enjoy this latest flick from Disney, who never fail to slide in valuable life lessons in all of their stories.
