Basketball: CHS Girls Destroy Kearny High School, 54-19

Along with the varsity boys’ team, the girls’ basketball team went up against rival Point Loma on Tuesday; the girls played at Point Loma High. Despite strong play from both teams, Point Loma outscored Coronado in nearly every quarter. The final score was 44-57 to Point Loma.

The tide turned on Friday for the varsity girls as they played Kearny High School at home. The first quarter was a sweep by Coronado, 13-1, only letting Kearny score a free throw in the entire quarter. The girls led 21-11 at the end of the half and, once again, destroyed their opponents in the third, as Coronado now led 41-14. Kearny only scored five points after that, and the final score was 54-19. Offensively, sophomore Lauren White shot 23 out of the 54 points that Coronado scored, along with thirteen rebounds. Junior Kathryn Monk shot eight points, along with nine rebounds and three steals.

The team’s current season record is 5 wins to 11 losses.
