On Saturday, April 26th, the Coronado Floral Association will be hosting the first annual Spring Fling open to the general public. The upcoming Spring Fling event will be held in the Flower Show tents at Spreckels Park in the heart of Coronado. This year’s theme is: Flip Flops and Florals. There will be food samplings from local restaurants, wine and beer tasting, live music and raffle prize drawings. The fun begins at 6:30 pm and the event will last until 9:30 pm. Afterwards, an official after party will be held at McP’s Irish Pub for attendees of the earlier event.
“In years past this has been a members only event; this year we are opening it up to the entire community. The event is open to anyone and everyone over the age of 21” explain Colby Freer and Rita Alipour, co-chairs of this year’s Spring Fling. The highly anticipated event is directly affiliated with the Coronado Flower Show and all proceeds will benefit the Coronado Floral Association. Along with Freer and Alipour, the event committee includes local Coronado residents Kate Blumenthal, Sara Berta, Kristin Baker, Cerissa Kieffer, Lisa Murphy and Lucy Hutchinson. The Coronado Floral Association liaisons for the event are Rob Crenshaw and Gregor Shanks.

For more than eight decades the Coronado Flower Show has been a spring tradition on Coronado. It is the largest tented flower show in the nation. Every year locals and visitors alike enjoy browsing the multiple exhibits placed around the Spreckels Park Gazebo. To accompany the beautiful floral exhibits, the show also features live music, a youth section with craft activities for children, booths featuring local vendors and a wine and beer garden where guests can relax and enjoy a cool beverage. This year, the Spring Fling will add another facet to the lively weekend event and hopefully become a new annual tradition for years to come.
Event co-chairs Rita Alipour and Colby Freer shared: “We are really looking forward to having this be a wonderful evening in our community. This is the opportunity to nibble, sip and celebrate spring under the stars in Coronado Spreckels Park.”

The Spring Fling will feature delicious food samplings from Coronado and San Diego County restaurants, a variety of craft beers from local brewers, regional fine wines and live entertainment throughout the evening. Each ticket includes a complimentary souvenir glass designed by Gina Falletta Design. Bungalow 56, a local interior design firm and event planning business, will showcase a vignette as well as help with the overall design of the event. Another fun element will be surprise pop-ups staged by On Demand Lifestyle Staffing that will occur during the event to entertain guests. Attendees will also have the chance to enter raffle drawings and grand prize giveaways. The official emcee for the event will be Coronado local John Weisbarth.
Many local businesses and residents have come together to make this wonderful event possible. Plenty of liquid libations will be available at the beer lounge sponsored by the Coronado Brewing Company, as well as at booths from Wine-a-bit , Zilaro Cellars and Magnifico Giornata, a sparkling wine infused with subtle essences of spring.
Some lucky guests will leave the event with fantastic prizes including gift cards, goodie baskets, and stand up paddleboard lessons from a variety of sponsors.
