Coronado Art Walk logoThe Coronado Historical Association sponsored the11th annual Coronado Art Walk over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of September at the Coronado Ferry Landing. Very positive comments are coming back about the outstanding quality of the work of the 75 artists represented and the wide range of mediums included. With a breeze coming off the bay and absolutely beautiful weather, the Coronado Ferry Landing was the ideal place to be.

The Coronado Historical Association would like to thank the Unified Port of San Diego and the Coronado Ferry Landing for their continued support of this eagerly anticipated community event. To be able to put on an event like this in such an outstanding location is really a privilege. We would also like to thank the Marriott for providing a two night stay as part of our Best Booth Award and for generously offering our artists an affordable rate, which they greatly appreciate.

Of course, events like this do not happen without the support of the community of Coronado, both financially and with volunteers. Volunteers came from Denise Rogers’ art history students at San Diego Mesa College, from the Coronado High School National Honor Society, Special Boat Team 12, Boy Scouts Troop 801, Coronado NJROTC, Beachmaster Unit One, and from the Coronado Historical Association. This is my 11th and final year as chair of the Coronado Art Walk, which I do as a volunteer, with help from the staff of the Coronado Historical Association, to whom I owe much gratitude. Thanks to Susan Ronan, Marcy Raphael, Brenda Jo Robyn and Alma Ronis for being jurors for the show as a whole. Thanks to Marcy Raphael, who has helped me computerize the artist intake process, and who also participated in the jurying of the Best Booth Award with Susan Ronan. Special thanks to Jeanne McGowen, who helps with the artist intake and editing, and to Sondi Arndt, who does all the banners, T-shirts and our website. Thank you to Gerry Lounsbury, who is our liaison with the Coronado Art Association and to Ajay Shah, our liaison with the Coronado Ferry Landing merchants who generously provided coupons for kids’ ice cream cones to be distributed at the Art Activity booths. Committee members were: Gail Bardin, Cathy Ryan, Rita Sarich, Eddie Warner, and Barbara & Ed Lohlein. Thank you also to the Coronado Historical Association staff who worked on the Coronado Art Walk: Janet Francis (Executive Director), Rebecca Baker, Katelynn Estrada, Maria Obst, Rosa Petroulias, Jewelee Rossi, Christine Stokes and Stephanie Washburn. And thank you to the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission for providing a booth for four of our local Coronado Artists and for participating in our information booth. Thank you all.

I would also like to thank Jake Engel, the manager of the Ferry Landing for his help in making the Coronado Art Walk a success. The addition of help from his advertizing team headed by Jennifer Denham was greatly appreciated.

Next year we are moving to October, which will hopefully give us perfect weather. Please save the dates of October 21 and 22, 2017 for the twelfth annual Coronado Art Walk. Thank you Coronado for your continuing support of this wonderful community event.
