  • Stingrays are Summer Bummers:  Over the past two weeks, Coronado Lifeguards have treated a number of people who were stung by stingrays. One day dozens were stung, and the following day not one sting was reported. Coronado Lifeguards like to warn swimmers about stingrays. They recommend shuffling your feet in the water to avoid stepping on a stingray and suffering a painful sting. If you are stung, it is best to seek assistance from a Lifeguard immediately. Check out this Lifeguard handout on stingrays.Stingray Handout

  • Bicycle Maintenance StationsThe City of Coronado has added a new amenity for bicyclists along the Bayshore Bikeway. Two “Bike Fixtation” bicycle repair stations, which give bicyclists the ability to make quick repairs away from the path of travel, have been installed at strategic locations along the popular Class I bikeway. The idea for the repair stations was based on an initiative of the City’s Bicycle Advisory Committee. One is located near Glorietta Boulevard and Fourth Street near the Golf Course. The other is located near Fiddler’s Cove. The stations will include a stand to hold a bicycle by the seat post while simple maintenance is performed, as well as basic tools such as a screwdriver, Allen wrenches, and tire levers, and an air pump with a gauge securely attached. The stations are designed to prevent bicycles from locking to them. The station adjacent to Glorietta Boulevard will include a forest green thermoplastic coating to prevent visual encroachment upon the golf course, and the station adjacent to Fiddler’s Cove Marina will include a stainless steel finish to prevent rust due to the ocean air.Fiddler's Cove Fixtation
