6th Annual Parenting Conference Offers Insight Into Building Resilient Families through Better Communication

Join us for a day of connection, sharing, and learning for parents and youth.

Each year finding the right speakers for the parent conference is a big task. Why? Because Coronado is an affluent community with well educated parents and caregivers who have TONS of resources at the tips of their fingers.

One thing we know about this community is that parents have access to information but are often unsure of how to implement the information. This year’s Parent Conference is bringing it back to basics with the most amazing presenters we have ever had. Register now to attend Saturday, January 27th.SAFE parenting conference

Coronado SAFE hopes to provide parents, grandparents, caregivers and community members with some new insights at their 6th Annual Parenting Conference on Saturday, January 27th. This event is a unique opportunity to hear leaders in the field speak on the latest research on building resiliency in kids and families along with tips and tools to implement immediately with our families. Featuring two dynamic keynote speakers along with three in-depth expert workshops, the event is set to draw a large crowd.

“We are excited to have such great speakers on the topic of Building Resiliency within our families. The tips and tools that participants will gain from attending this conference could very well change their lives.” said Georgia Ferrell, Executive Director at Coronado SAFE.

To put it simply, this year the Parent Conference is geared up to pull parents and the community out of all the self help books, facebook articles, and give parents personal, face to face intervention, to use at home. Register now

From our workshop presenters to our keynote speakers, the conference is a “one size fits all” event. There is something for everyone no matter how young or old your child is or what your family structure looks like. Divorced? This parent conference is for you. Teens? This parent conference is for you. Toddlers? This parent conference is for you. Kids in college? This parent conference is for you.

Our first keynote speaker is Dr. Mark Katz, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist, Author, and Director of Learning Development Services. His talk is entitled “There’s Never Anything So Wrong with Us That What’s Right with Us Can’t Fix” and will be speaking on: Experiences that foster resilience; Experiences that can stretch otherwise resilient individuals beyond their limits of emotional endurance; The role and nature of positive turning point experiences; and, Why our greatest source of strength may be each other.

The second keynote speaker is Erica Curtis, LMFT, ATR-BC, Board Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and expert contributor to over 50 media outlets. Her talk is entitled: Addressing Challenging Behavior Through Creativity and will be speaking on: Why talking to kids and teens doesn’t always work… and what to do instead; How to use drawing, music, and movement to connect and communicate with your kids and teens, even during the toughest times; and, How to tap into your own creativity to develop innovative approaches to challenging behaviors.

As part of the conference, participants can choose to attend two out of three additional workshops. These interactive sessions with experts will delve into key issues. The three workshops are titled Face to Face: Communication Off-line About On-line Behavior; Modern Family: Communication in Today’s World; and, Neutralize the Argument Through the Love and Logic® Approach.

The goal isn’t to “solve” the problem. Problems will always be there, it is how you handle a problem when it arises and continue building and strengthening the family structure in the face of everyday adversity.

Building Resilient Families through Better Communication is set to take place Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 9:00am-1:00pm at the CoSA Theatre located at 650 D Ave in Coronado. Registration is $45 per person/$80 per couple thereafter. Day of event prices are $50 per person. Visit CoronadoSAFE.org to learn more or call us at 619-522-6884.
