New Poetry Appreciation Class Offered

CORONADO, CA (January 29, 2015) – A new four-part poetry class called Poetry for the People invites community members to explore this creative art. It’s for those who love reading poetry or always wanted to understand it better. There is no fee and no prior experience needed.

Educator Charles Kamar will focus on nine past and contemporary poets, with the intention of bringing students closer to the beauty of poetry. No dull textbook analysis here! Students will engage in a greater appreciation and enjoyment of poetry. There will be technique analysis and insight into the use of language that distinguishes highly regarded poets and their ability to convey ideas and topics. Robert Browning’s murderous duke, Louise Glück’s now-adult Gretel, Hansel’s sister; Updike’s adult high-school basketball player frozen in his past glories, and Jack butler’s rat-turned-coachman’s view of Cinderella are a few of the subjects open for lively discussions.

Classes will take place Wednesdays, February 11, 18, 25 and March 4 from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Coronado Library. To inquire or sign-up, please contact Charles Kamar [email protected]
