Local Artist Spotlight – Doug St. Denis

Our thirteenth featured artist in the Coronado Spring Banner Series is painter Doug
St. Denis. Her banner was located between 4th and 5th Streets. Banners in this series
were on display through June.

To say that Doug St. Denis dabbles in the arts is like saying a deep flowing river
dabbles in water.

Doug started honing her many talents early on – dancing, junior theater, painting
and acting. Her study of oil painting began while living in Carmel, where she also
performed in local and regional theatrical productions.

Returning to Coronado, Doug began showing her paintings in juried exhibits
throughout San Diego County, including the San Diego Art Institute in Balboa Park.
Doug works in oil, acrylic, and mixed media. Her collage, “The Way I See Things,”
won the top prize at the Del Mar Fair. Her work has shown at Emerald C Gallery,
the C3 Gallery, Spreckels Park, and the Coronado Flower Show.

Most of you also know Doug St. Denis as the woman who put the Coronado Island
Film Festival on the map! She is the founder and chair of the Film Festival, which is
still going strong.
