Meet the Coronado Seniors Out & About Volunteer Drivers

Friday, February 24 marked the graduation day for the first group of Coronado Seniors Out & About Volunteer drivers (pictured above). After two days of training that included First Aide, CPR and AED; Good Driving Habits; Driver Sensitivity; Program Driver Expectations and RideScheduler Software Program, this group is ready to start driving!

Coronado Seniors Out and AboutCoronado Seniors Out & About is a volunteer driver program that provides scheduled rides to Coronado residents 60+ who have limited or no transportation options. Rides are provided for a nominal fee ($1 to $4 depending on distance traveled). Rides are provided to medical and health related offices, grocery stores, banks, events, the John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green and much more within a radius of 25 miles from Coronado. Numerous Coronado residents will begin receiving rides from the Coronado Seniors Out and About volunteer drivers beginning March 1, 2017. The program is built on a “seniors helping seniors” model, however, any adult willing to become a volunteer driver and complete the program application and training process will not be turned away.
