Cops and Robbers: Check Overpayment Scam Averted (3/28/17-4/13/17)

Thanks to the City of Coronado Police Department for providing The Coronado Times with the below information (partial list):

CRIMES

4/10/17: Report of Domestic Violence at Unknown Location
Witness called dispatch requesting police in reference to a male and female arguing.

4/10/17: Malicious Mischief/Vandalism near 100 block of B Avenue
Unknown suspect vandalized a cylinder container.

4/9/17: Report of Domestic Violence at Unknown Location
Couple became involved in a verbal argument.

4/9/17: Petty Theft near 1800 block of Silver Strand Boulevard
Unknown suspect stole an Apple iPhone from the pool area.

4/9/17: Petty Theft near 600 block of Orange Avenue
Victim notified police that his wallet was stolen from his backpack while he was in the library. Inside of his wallet was approximately $950.

4/7/17: Petty Theft near 1700 block of Strand Way
Unknown suspect(s) took victim’s purse containing prescription sunglasses, sunglass case, and $50 in cash, after she had left it at the location. The estimated total loss was $554.

4/6/17-4/7/17: NSF Check Violation (Felony) near 800 block of D Avenue
Victim was selling a table on internet site for $500. Victim was contacted by the buyer, and buyer sent her a check in the amount of $1,850. The buyer requested the victim deposit the check and then use the remaining amount to pay his movers. Victim recognized the tactic as a scam and brought the check to the police.

4/6/17-4/7/17: Malicious Mischief/Vandalism near 300 block of C Avenue
Unknown subject used spray paint cans to vandalize and smash the rear passenger auxiliary window of the victim’s vehicle, as well as the front windows and the door of her residence. Victim’s front door mat was also set on fire.

4/6/17: Burglary of the Second Degree near 2000 block of 2nd Street
Victim’s 18k yellow gold, white mother of pearl and diamond Cartier necklace was stolen from hotel room.

4/5/17: Grand Theft near 600 block of Ocean Boulevard
Victim had subjects staying in his home for one night. Items from his home then were missing at a loss of $1,217.16.

4/3/17: Grand Theft Property near 4000 block of Coronado Bay Road
Unknown suspect stole a small bag containing various jewelry items from either the victim’s hotel room or from victim’s luggage as she was checking out from the hotel. The total value of the stolen items is approximately $17,000.

3/28/17-4/6/17: Petty Theft near 1100 block of 5th Street
Unknown suspect took victim’s unlocked bicycle. The value of the bicycle is estimated at $200.

4/13/17: Disorderly Conduct due to Alcohol – Misdemeanor near 200 block of Orange Avenue
44 year old male

4/11/17: Bench Warrant of Arrest – Misdemeanor near 1500 block of Orange Avenue
33 year old male

4/8/17: Use/Under the Influence of Controlled Substance – Misdemeanor near 1800 block of Strand Way
27 year old male
